As usual the term has swiftly moved towards its end, and the long road to Bethlehem is almost over. It has been a brilliant term, with lots happening both in and out of school, as well as us achieving our second “good” OFSTED. My thanks go to all the staff who have worked so hard for your children this year. Special thanks go to the staff in Reception, Year One and Year Two for the brilliant Nativity performance yesterday. That was my 29th Nativity, and definitely one of the best!
Our newly introduced “Curiosity Café” was very well attended by parents this week. The aim of these is to give parents a better understanding of the methods we use to teach the national curriculum, as well as sharing and celebrating with parents all the interesting things that we do in school. (This was one of our OFSTED issues). We shall be holding the Curiosity Café about 4 times a year. The next one will be on Thursday 8th February at 2.30pm.
We have Christmas Lunch next Monday. If you want your child to wear a Christmas hat or jumper for the day, that would be acceptable. Please don’t feel that you have to buy something special; times are tough and this is not compulsory. This is also the reason that we are not collecting for the “Save the Children’s” Christmas jumper day today.
Tuesday of next week is the pantomime. We will be going during the school day, so there is no need to arrive at school especially early. Children must wear uniform for this; there are lots of other schools there and by wearing the uniform it makes our children easily identifiable. They can wear a Christmas hat if they wish.
Changes for next term
We will be using some of our sports funding next term to hire a gymnastics specialist to work with all the children for a day a week in school. We are very lucky to be able to employ Sandra King for a term who was a former gymnast and who has also coached Paralympians. She will be in school all day on Tuesdays working alongside the teacher to improve gymnastics teaching. In order to make best use of this time, we are going to move parent assembly to Thursday and link it to Family Reading. So the timings for these will be as follows;
Thursdays Family reading 2.20pm – 2.40pm, Parent Assembly 2.45pm – 3.15pm
Keeping our children safe.
Christmas can be a stressful time for families. Over the next couple of weeks, please remember that all children have a right to be safe and well looked after. So if you are in any doubt about something you see or hear in your neighbourhood, make that call and share your concern. The telephone number for Children’s Services is 0345 0455203; an emergency out of hours number is given as appropriate. This can be done anonymously.
