The Easter holidays are just around the corner, and we are already seeing improvements in the weather.
What happening before the end of term?
We will be having the Curiosity Café on Thursday (28th) at 2.30pm. . Do come along and see what your child has been learning about if you can; it is always a fun, well attended event. This will replace family reading and parent assembly next week.
Don’t forget to return your slips for parent’s evening by Tuesday 26th so that the teachers can organise your time .
Bookings are now closed for Mother’s day lunches and we look forward to seeing you on 29th at around 12 noon. The youngest children always go in first, so ideally we would have Reception mums at 12 noon, followed by year 1/2 at about 12.05pm, then older children at about 10 past. Please try to leave very young children at home as the hall does get crowded.
We always have an Easter raffle at the end of terms. So if you are able to, please donate an Easter egg to school. This is always a very popular event with children.
What’s happening next term?
Swimming will be starting the second week back after the holiday (w/c 29th April). Two adults (i.e. the class teacher and the teaching assistant) teach the children either at the poolside or in the water. At least one of these staff members is trained in resuscitation training. The pool is a learner pool which means that the depth is no greater that 0.85 metres. The pool is heated and there are separate boys and girls changing facilities.
The children will need swimming costumes (no bikinis or knee length swimming shorts), a swimming hat, flip flops and a towel. Earrings, all jewellery and hair clips must be removed before swimming. Children may wear goggles in the pool. If your child has a verruca they can swim as long as they have a verruca sock on their foot. Parents usually find it easier to send the swimming kit in at the start of the week as there are sometimes opportunities for extra swimming sessions. The timetable for this will be sent out early next term.
We would be interested to know about your child’s water confidence if they have not swum with us before (either in the Reception Class or if you have joined us from another school). It is useful for us to know for example if your Reception child minds if water splashes on their face at bath time. If you have any information you would like to share please talk to the class teacher. Swimming is a compulsory part of the PE curriculum, and children are not able to opt out. We always have a fun summer and finish the year sure that the children are developing their water confidence, swimming abilities and safety around water in the local area.
The recent Valentine’s disco and the fashion show together made over £800 profit for the school. This money is used for a range of things that the school could not afford. For example, decreasing the costs of trips for all parents. This money will also be used to continue the refurbishment of the outside toilets. We are hoping that these will be finished in time for swimming in the summer term. Thank you to the Parent Council for all their hard work.
The recent Red Nose Day made over £40 which was donated to the charity. Thank you for your support with this.
Safeguarding during the Easter break
The holiday period can be a stressful time for families. Over the long holiday break, please remember that all children have a right to be safe and well looked after. So if you are in any doubt about something you see or hear in your neighbourhood, make that call and share your concern. The telephone number for Children’s Services is 0345 0455203; an emergency out of hours number is given as appropriate. This can be done anonymously.
