Exploring Autumn
We've had a very busy first term at school. We have read lots of texts such as 'The Bad Tempered Ladybird', 'Owl Babies' and 'Leaf Man' as well as different stories from the author Julia Donaldson.
Children have been enjoying activities indoors and outdoors and are really enjoying our Tuesday afternoons outdoors in our den area on the field. We end our sessions with a hot chocolate, milk or water drink and a story.
This term, children have been creating their own small worlds and loved using the Owl Baby puppets to retell the story using some of the repetitive story language that Bill kept saying.
We have been on an autumn walk around our local area, ticking off things found on the checklist before putting them in their buckets. We found lots of acorns and saw a squirrel. We talked about road safety and all the children were very well behaved, I was very proud of them. We have been talking about the season of autumn, how the weather changes and how the trees change. We've also learnt about hibernation and nocturnal animals.
We have used all the natural materials we found to create leaf fairies and leaf printing. The children also found our resident squirrel standing on our bucket of conkers, helping himself!
We have looked at repeating patterns, Andy Goldsworthy art and have been learning how to write the letters for the sounds we have been learning.
Our First Week at School
Donaldson Class have had a busy first week at school. We have been reading lots of stories by the author Julia Donaldson as our class is named after her. We have also been learning new routines and expectations and exploring our new environments. The children have enjoyed meeting their Year 6 buddies who have helped them settle in at lunchtimes. They have used different resources in our indoor and outdoor classrooms and are learning to 'choose it, use it, put it away', less tidying up at the end!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
