About the PE and Sports Premium

Sports Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of PE, sport, and physical activity. The funding aims to ensure all children develop healthy, active lifestyles and have access to high‑quality sporting opportunities. Schools receive this grant each year to make sustainable improvements to their PE provision—meaning changes that will benefit pupils now and in the future.

The Sports Premium is designed to help schools:

    • Increase participation in physical activity and sport

    • Improve the quality of PE teaching through staff training and resources

    • Offer a broader range of sports and physical activities

    • Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing

    • Develop competitive opportunities for pupils

How Alderman Payne Primary School Uses Sports Premium Funding

At Alderman Payne Primary School, we use Sports Premium funding strategically to ensure every child has access to high‑quality physical education and enjoyable sporting experiences. Our approach focuses on long‑term impact, inclusivity, and building confidence in all pupils.

Enhancing PE Teaching and Staff Expertise

We invest funding so staff can deliver engaging, high‑quality PE lessons with skills and confidence. This includes training, access to specialist coaches, and resources that support effective teaching.

    Expanding Sporting Opportunities

Sports Premium enables us to offer a wider range of sports and physical activities, ensuring pupils can discover new interests and develop new skills. This includes after‑school clubs, enrichment sessions, and opportunities to try less traditional sports and activities.

    Improving Equipment and Facilities

We use funding to purchase high‑quality PE equipment and maintain safe, accessible spaces for physical activity. This ensures pupils have the tools they need to participate fully and confidently.

    Increasing Participation for All Pupils

A key priority is ensuring every child, regardless of ability or background, can take part in physical activity. We run inclusive clubs, targeted sessions, and confidence‑building activities to encourage greater participation.

    Promoting Health and Wellbeing

We help pupils understand the importance of staying active, eating well, and looking after their physical and mental health. This includes active playtimes, wellbeing programmes, and whole‑school fitness challenges.

    Developing Competitive Sport

We are developing opportunities for pupils to take part in inter‑school and intra‑school competitions. These experiences help build teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
