Autumn Term 1 - Community – Myself and Family

This term, the children will be settling into their new environments, making new friends and developing relationships with the adults around them. As they settle in, they will learn new routines and school expectations, as well as creating our own class expectations together. Exploring our new surroundings will give the children opportunities to meet their Year 6 buddies and other adults in school. Time will also be spent ensuring that children know who to go to for help during lunchtimes.

As part of our new topic, the children will share their Special Boxes and talk about the things that are special to them and their families. We will also explore emotions and link these to our Zones of Regulation area in the classroom. Each child will paint a self-portrait, which will become our first class display in the corridor!

Getting to know your children, their personalities and their interests will be a key focus during the first few weeks. Once the children are settled, time will also be spent completing the statutory Reception Baseline Assessments.

It will be a very busy first term, with lots of new things to learn and experience. These skills and routines will be developed gradually, with plenty of opportunities to revisit and practise them throughout the term.

Most importantly, we want your children to be happy coming to school, enjoy their days and have fun while beginning their new learning journey with a smile.

The first year of school is incredibly important, and building a strong relationship with parents is equally important to us. We are a very approachable team of staff, and no question is too small, so please do ask. You can speak to us at the end of the day or arrange an appointment through the school office.
