Year 5 & 6 explore the Circulatory System with a hands-on heart dissection!
As part of our final exploration of the Circulatory System, Year 5 and 6 students had an unforgettable opportunity to dissect a lamb's heart. This hands-on lesson brought our science topic to life as we compared the lamb’s heart to a human heart, examining its chambers and the vessels that carry oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
We felt the weight of the heart, marvelled at its intricate structure, and discussed its colour, size, and texture. We also explored what the heart is made of (using a microscope) and identified factors that contribute to a fatty heart. This sparked a thought-provoking discussion about how lifestyle choices—like a healthy diet and regular exercise—can promote a healthier heart.
Holding and studying an actual heart was an inspiring experience for everyone. It deepened our understanding of this vital organ and left us with a newfound respect and deepened our curiosity for the complexity of the human body. A truly memorable science lesson!
Daffodil class have been learning about the Windrush Generation—a group of courageous individuals who travelled from the Caribbean to Britain after World War II, bringing with them rich culture, resilience, and hope. Showcased in their writing, the children have demonstrated their appreciation for the contributions of the Windrush Generation. We hope you enjoy reading these thoughtful and heartfelt creations!
We are excited to share with you some of the things that Daffodil class have been learning over the past few weeks!
In science, the children have been diving into the fascinating world of blood and heart function. They have explored how the heart pumps blood and the vital role of blood in our bodies. This hands-on learning experience has sparked curiosity and understanding of human biology.
In writing lessons, the children have been honing their skills in writing historical recounts. They have been learning to structure their writing effectively, focusing on key events and details to engage their readers.
In art, the children have been sketching beautiful landscapes. They have been experimenting with different techniques to capture the essence of nature, developing their creativity and observation skills.
We encourage you to discuss these topics with your children and ask them about their favourite parts of these lessons.
Thank you for your continued support!
